Given this suite of factors contributing to academic dishonesty, instructors can pursue a number of different avenues to prevent academic dishonesty. Beyond mere prevention, the choices faculty make in their classrooms can also support students as they develop robust notions of academic integrity and the value system that underpins it. There are three main areas in which faculty might consider making instructional interventions in pursuit of those goals:
- Designing courses and assignments that cultivate a culture of academic integrity and minimize incentives to cheat
- Limiting opportunities to cheat on assignments and tests
- Effectively responding when violations do occur
