Information for Students
Your classroom has strong wifi, successfully using it can also depend on making sure your device is ready. The steps your instructor may ask you to take will depend on your location, the number of students in the class, and how you’ll be using wifi. Please keep in mind that some general practices (turning off your computer at the end of each day or at least restarting it daily, closing programs and tabs when you’re not using them) can help ensure your laptop is in good shape for an important moment like an online exam.
In a class where you’ll be taking an exam, as soon as you’re in your seat:
- If you’re bringing in a wifi device you’re not using (phone, tablet or laptop), turn off its wifi or turn it off entirely (rather than using AirPlane mode, which does not always shut down wifi).
- For the device you’re using, if you encounter any issues:
- Toggle wifi off, wait 15 seconds and then turn it back on, to get a better connection.
- Restart the device you’re using, to restart both wifi and your browser.
If you’re taking an exam, arrive at least ten minutes in advance, so you have as much time as possible to prepare after you take your seat.
If you’re taking an exam in a class of more than fifty students, restart your computer as soon as you’re in your seat, then enter your Quiz so you will be ready as soon as it opens.
