Instructor FAQs

You can use most browsers to access Canvas, so long as they are up-to-date. You can review computer specifications, browser requirements, and other details here.

You can update your name by following the instructions outlined in the Customize User Display Settings resource.

Copying and pasting from pages in your old site to pages in your new site is strongly discouraged, as links within the site will not work.  Instead, see the quick steps for importing content between sites.

“Syllabus Search” is a Canvas tool that provides instructors the opportunity to share course syllabi with students in the BC Canvas community.  By default, when instructors use the Syllabus tool in Canvas, that information is available in the “syllabus search” database and allows students to make more informed decisions during the course registration and drop/add periods. Learn more about syllabus search, including how to opt out.

Instructors cannot add students to their Canvas course directly. Students will be imported into Canvas courses automatically through BC’s course registration system and will be listed in the roster before the course has been published.

Library staff can assist you in placing items on course reserve, whether by reserving texts for students to check out of the library or by scanning book chapters and journal articles for digital viewing. Review library guidelines on course reserves to submit your initial requests. All materials will be available in Canvas under the “Course Resources” link in the navigation menu.

Review materials from the CTE to make sure that your Canvas site is in compliance with copyright guidelines in educational settings.
