You can embed a Panopto Recording using HTML code anywhere in Canvas where the Rich Content Editor can be found (for example, in Pages, Syllabus, Discussions, Announcements, Quizzes). This tutorial demonstrates how to embed a Panopto recording in a Canvas discussion post.
Please note that embedded Panopto videos cannot be accessed automatically, as they can be when students find them under Panopto Recordings in the left course site menu. To address this limitation, the steps below include changing the access settings so anyone at BC with the link can view them. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org with any concerns about this
Retrieving Panopto Session Embed Code
Begin by clicking on “Panopto Recordings” in the Canvas course menu . Then, click on the appropriate folder to access your recordings .
Place your cursor in the recording session space to reveal its menu. Then, click “share.”
First, click on “Embed.” The HTML code will display in the text box. Highlight and copy the HTML code (“command + c” for Mac, “right click, copy” for PC). [Note: You will paste this code in later steps.]
Next, click the small arrow to the right of Specific People to open a menu, and select “Anyone at Your Institution with the Link” (no one will be able to find the recording unless you send them the link, but if they have it they can open it.)
Entering HTML Code in Canvas
In Canvas, click on “Discussions” in the course menu , then click on the appropriate Discussion .
To add content to the discussion post, click the “edit” icon.
The Rich Content Editor will display. Click on the blue “HTML editor” link in the upper right corner.
Paste the HTML code in the text box to embed the Panopto recording, and then click “save.”
The video will then display in the Discussion post.
